JUST ADD COLOR DESIGN is a full-service interior design firm. My design-build training and years of project experience allows us to provide all the services necessary from a remodel construction project to providing workroom services for custom furniture, upholstery, window treatments, wallpaper installation, color consulting, and space planning. My team includes contractors, architects, artists and trade professionals to execute your design while saving you time and money which takes stress off your plate. Utilizing PowerPoint presentations to hone in on the design concept, we can provide drawings, elevations, and 3D images to solidify the details of the design vision.
Our design projects have included high end homes from $1M to $12M as well as Airbnb projects in Barrio Logan. Hospitality projects include local restaurants, skin care salons and a boutique hotel on Shelter Island. Corporate design included computer learning centers in four states and professional offices throughout San Diego. Each project is a unique exploration of curiosity and experimentation that leads to a constant evolution.
Currently, with the need for outdoor dining, I designed an outdoor patio for a local restaurant in Ocean Beach which included a live wall of 450 succulents amongst reclaimed wood, Sunbrella ceiling panels, floor to ceiling wall tiles and ambient lighting. This will be a permanent solution for their need for more outdoor seating which tripled in size upon completion.
Today, more than ever, it is essential to bring the outdoors to our indoor spaces. My travels abroad and our state’s natural beauty and range of incredible hues are my inspiration. One way or another, I bring the colors of nature inside. I believe Mother Nature is a relentless muse, and you will see her inspiration woven throughout the spaces that I design.
My passion for design and color all began at a young age. My mother – who enrolled in an interior design course at the local college – surprised me for my birthday, by taking me shopping for new bedding to inspire me to re-design my bedroom. With the new pastel hues surrounding me, not only did I feel soothed, more importantly, the room felt like me.
Moving to the West coast in 6th grade, a whole new landscape opened up to me. I ended up studying Finance while dipping into interior design in my spare time. After 10 years as a currency trader, I could not avoid my fascination with design and the impact it has on everyday life. I quit the corporate world in 2005 and received my degree in interior design from the Art Institute in San Diego. Here, I gained invaluable knowledge designing to the architecture of the space, how crucial lighting is to our productivity and our mood, the efficiency of Green Design and the beauty of Art History. Design software is also crucial to learn to become technically savvy in AutoCAD, Revit, PhotoShop and 3D rendering. With this comprehensive training and my innate talent, JUST ADD COLOR was born.
My color palette has evolved considerably since my childhood bedroom makeover and has become my trademark as a designer. Color can alter your mood dramatically and should never be underestimated. I love mixing fabric, patterns and texture to bring life to a space. I specialize in wallpaper which has come so far to the days when I would play amongst the velvet red wallpaper in our family home on the East coast. Today, my aesthetic is about mixology and materiality, pairing contemporary and vintage, raw and refined, masculine and feminine. At the end of the day, experiencing the evolution of a project where wonder and excitement is being created, is food for my soul.
